Eau Duelle Eau de Toilette by the French house Diptyque, released in 2010 and composed by Fabrice Pellegrin, is a spiced, resinous vanilla with a tea-like dryness. Everyone who describes it calls it spicy; about two thirds also find it amber-like, and a minority notice gourmand, green, resinous or citrus sides.

Bergamot, cardamom and pink pepper give the opening a bright, spicy lift, with juniper adding a dry, gin-like coolness. Black tea brings a tannic, slightly smoky dryness through the middle, and saffron a warm, leathery depth. Bourbon vanilla forms the base, more woody and smoky than sweet, with elemi resin and frankincense adding a dry, lemony incense, and ambergris with musk giving a soft, salty, skin-like finish.

Eau Duelle is worn by anyone. Most wearers find its longevity moderate and its projection moderate to intimate. It is voted mainly for autumn and winter and for daytime, suiting a cool-weather vanilla for someone who prefers restraint.
