Freakincense

Freakincense from Coreterno, created in 2023 by Luca Maffei, is above all a woody fragrance, with a strong resinous character and smaller touches of spice, flowers, amber and citrus. As the name hints, incense is the central idea, treated in a dark but polished way.

Lime and pink pepper give a quick, sharp, sparkling opening. Elemi and incense then take over with a lemony, smoky resin that feels like a cool stone church, while violet adds a faint powdery sweetness. Labdanum brings a deeper, ambery, leathery warmth, and patchouli, vetiver and cashmeran fill out the base with earthy, rooty and soft musky woods.

It is worn by anyone and suits people who are drawn to incense but want something wearable outside a meditative mood. The resinous, woody profile points towards autumn and winter, evenings and quieter occasions, though the citrus start keeps it from feeling heavy. It works well for those who like smoky woods, dry patchouli and a contemplative, slightly gothic atmosphere.
