Vis from the Italian perfumer-led house Angela Ciampagna, composed by Angela Ciampagna and released in 2023, is a hot, peppery oud with a fruity touch. Spicy is the word everyone uses for it; about half also find it woody or ambery, and a quarter gourmand or musky.

Black pepper, pepper and cinnamon set a sharp, hot, slightly sweet spice from the start, and saffron adds a dry, leathery, faintly medicinal warmth. Raspberry brings a dark, jammy fruitiness that softens the heat. Agarwood is the heart of the base, dark, smoky and slightly animalic, with cypriol deepening it with an earthy, leathery smokiness and sandalwood adding a creamy smoothness. Peru balsam gives a warm, vanilla-tinged resin, and amber and musk a soft, lasting finish.

Vis is worn by anyone. Its bold, spiced character suits autumn and winter and evening wear, and it should appeal to someone who likes oud with real pepper heat and a touch of fruit rather than rose.
