Cherry Smoke, released by Tom Ford in 2022 and worn by anyone, is a sweet cherry scent pulled towards darkness. Sweet is the word everyone uses for it; about half also find it spicy, woody, floral and leathery, which gives a fair sense of the smoky, tanned frame around the fruit.
Sour cherry opens it, tart rather than syrupy, with saffron adding a warm, slightly medicinal spice. The heart is the interesting part: apricot and Chinese osmanthus give a soft, apricot-skin floral, while leather and a savoury olive note pull it away from dessert. The base is woods, cypriol and smoke, so the drydown is dry, earthy and genuinely smoky, like cherries near a bonfire.
Wearers are split between moderate and long lasting on longevity, and most find the sillage moderate. Autumn and winter take nearly all the seasonal votes and three quarters of wearers keep it for the night. It suits cold evenings and anyone who wants a cherry fragrance with grit rather than sugar.
