Jade Dragon, composed by Carlos Benaïm for Shanghai Tang in 2014, is a green, woody citrus for men built on three notes. Green, woody and citrusy are each used by everyone who describes it, which reflects how clearly the composition is drawn.
Bergamot opens it with a bright, slightly bitter freshness. Tea leaf is the heart, green and clean with a gentle astringency, the smell of leaves rather than a brewed cup. Vetiver is the base, earthy, dry and faintly smoky, giving the scent its length and weight. With only three ingredients listed, the development is gradual rather than dramatic: the citrus fades, the tea lingers, and the vetiver remains.
Reports on longevity and sillage have not yet been collected. On character this is a daytime scent for spring and summer, calm and tidy, suited to the office and to warm weather, and to someone who prefers restraint to sweetness. It is sold in a large bottle.
