Orto Delle Spezie, a 2022 release from Salvatore Ferragamo, is a spicy wood with a fruity twist. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, about two thirds find it spicy, and a third resinous. It is worn by anyone.
Saffron and nutmeg open it with a warm, dry, slightly leathery spice. Dates bring a dark, sticky, fig-like sweetness to the heart that softens the spices without turning the scent into a dessert. The base is agarwood, cedar and sandalwood, dry, resinous and creamy in turn, with labdanum adding a sweet, balsamic, ambery depth that holds everything together.
The spice-and-date structure feels made for autumn and winter evenings, for coats and candlelit dinners. It should appeal to anyone who likes oud and saffron but wants a smoother, more polished take with a touch of fruit.
