Le Patchouli Elixir

Le Patchouli Elixir is an elixir-strength patchouli from the French house Reminiscence, released in 2024 and worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it says woody, about half add sweet or musky, and a quarter notice resin or amber.

Patchouli leads from start to finish, earthy, dry and slightly cocoa-like. Around it sit cedar for a clean, pencil-shaving wood, sandalwood for creaminess and vetiver for a rooty, smoky dryness. The sweetness comes from vanilla and tonka bean, warm and almond-tinged, and from tolu balsam, a resin with a cinnamon-vanilla character. Labdanum adds an ambery, leathery depth. White musk and musk soften the drydown and keep it wearable rather than raw.

No wearers have yet reported on longevity or sillage, though elixir concentrations are typically the longest-lasting in a line. Patchouli with vanilla and resin is a cold-weather, evening pairing, and it suits someone who already knows they like patchouli and wants it softened rather than hidden.
