Reef 33 from the Saudi house Reef Perfumes, composed by Kevin Mathys in 2020, is a spicy fragrance first, with about half of those who describe it noting woody and aromatic sides.
The composition is compact, with only a handful of materials. Saffron, including Indian saffron, sets the tone: a warm, golden spice with a leathery, slightly metallic and honeyed edge. Rosemary adds a fresh, green, resinous herb that lifts the spice and keeps it from feeling heavy. Agarwood, or oud, supplies the depth, a dark, dry wood with a faint smoky and medicinal character that lingers as the scent settles.
