Damask is a sweet, fruity rose from the British house Ormonde Jayne, released in 2020. Those who describe it call it sweet and floral in equal measure, and about half also find it spicy, woody, musky or citrusy.
It opens with pear, Italian lemon and blackcurrant: juicy, bright and slightly tart, a fruit salad rather than a single note. The heart is rose, the Damask rose of the name, rich and jammy, with jasmine adding a creamy floral warmth and pink pepper a bright, peppery sparkle. The base is amber for a soft, resinous warmth, vetiver for a dry, earthy counterpoint, musk for a smooth finish, and mineral notes that add a faint, stony dryness.
Damask is worn by anyone. By character it works across seasons and times of day, fruity enough for spring and warm enough for autumn evenings, and it suits people who like their rose sweet and fruit-led rather than green or powdery.
