Mercedes-Benz Air

Mercedes-Benz Air is a dry, green woody scent marketed for men, released by the German brand in 2023 and composed by Anne Flipo. Woody is how everyone describes it, and most also call it green, which fits a sparse, herbal composition with nothing sweet or fruity in it.

Petitgrain opens it, the green, slightly bitter note of crushed orange leaves and twigs, and it is joined by wormwood, which adds a sharp, aromatic, faintly medicinal bitterness that keeps the start bracing. Turmeric gives the heart an unusual dry, earthy, slightly peppery spice, warmer than the herbs but never sweet, and angelica adds a green, rooty, celery-like edge that reinforces the plant-stem character of the whole thing. The base is dry woods and patchouli, the woods clean and pale, the patchouli earthy and slightly damp, so the finish feels like bark and soil rather than warmth.
