Promise Me Flower, a 2017 women's fragrance from the French jeweller Mauboussin, is built on a very short list of notes. Everyone who describes it calls it sweet, green, musky and floral at once, which tells you how evenly balanced it is.
Black currant gives a tart, juicy fruitiness, and currant leaf and bud bring a sharp, green, slightly sappy freshness that keeps the fruit from reading as jam. Magnolia is the floral heart: lemony, clean and faintly creamy rather than heady.
