Nuit d’Issey is Issey Miyake's darker men's scent from 2014, composed by Dominique Ropion and Loc Dong. It is woody for everyone, with about half of wearers also finding it spicy and citrusy; sweetness, amber and leather are noticed by a minority.
Grapefruit and bergamot give the opening a short, sharp brightness. The heart quickly turns dry and smoky: black pepper and other spices, vetiver's earthy rootiness, a leather note and a core of woods. The base deepens that with patchouli, a dark ebony wood accord, incense for a resinous, church-like smokiness, and tonka bean to add a little warmth and sweetness at the very end.
Most people report moderate to long-lasting wear and moderate sillage, with a quarter finding it strong. It is voted for autumn and winter and firmly for the evening, which makes it a smoky, peppery scent for men on cold nights rather than a daytime fresh.
