Velvet Incenso

Woody and resinous in equal measure, Velvet Incenso is a Dolce&Gabbana fragrance from 2018 built around smoke and dark resins, with spice and amber close behind for most people.

Black pepper and elemi give a dry, peppery brightness early on, more of a crackle than a burst of freshness. Incense then takes over, bringing the cool, church-like smoke the name suggests, supported by labdanum and benzoin, which add a sticky, balsamic warmth. Patchouli brings earthiness, while cashmere wood and amberwood give a soft, slightly mineral woodiness. A touch of vanilla smooths the edges, so the resin feels velvety rather than harsh.

This is a contemplative, rather sombre scent that most naturally fits autumn and winter, evenings and quieter formal settings. It suits someone who enjoys incense and resin-heavy fragrances and wants something warm and dark without heavy sweetness.
