Sigismondo, composed by Paolo Terenzi for the Italian house V Canto in 2020, is a spiced rose and oud worn by anyone. Woody is the word everyone uses; about two thirds also call it spicy and floral, and a third find it sweet, musky or ambery.
Cinnamon and saffron open it with a warm, dry heat, the saffron adding a leathery, slightly medicinal edge. Rose and Bulgarian rose form the heart, rich and jammy, in the classic pairing with oud. Agarwood and Cambodian oud bring a dark, resinous, slightly smoky depth, with cypriol oil adding an earthy, woody smokiness. Patchouli, amber, vanilla and musk settle the base into a warm, lasting sweetness.
Reports on longevity and sillage have not yet been collected. By character it belongs to autumn and winter evenings and formal occasions, and suits anyone who enjoys the rose-oud tradition with a generous measure of spice. It is sold in a large bottle.
