Eternal Sunrise

Eternal Sunrise, composed by Gaël Montero for The Merchant of Venice in 2025, is a fragrance built almost entirely from resins and dry woods. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, resinous and amber at once, and about half add spicy and sweet.

Saffron opens it with a leathery, slightly medicinal warmth. The middle is incense in several forms: frankincense and olibanum give the dry, lemony, church-like smoke, and kyphi, an ancient Egyptian temple blend, adds a darker, honeyed resin. Papyrus and cypriol bring a dry, papery, earthy woodiness, and akigalawood a peppery, patchouli-like note. The base is labdanum and styrax, both warm, leathery, balsamic resins, with tonka bean adding a soft sweetness and an ambery wood material extending the whole thing.

It is worn by anyone. The incense-heavy character suits cold weather and evening wear, and a person who likes dry, smoky, resinous fragrances and does not need flowers or fruit to enjoy a scent.
