French Gallantry

French Gallantry is a green, herbal scent with a leathery, animalic undertone, released by the French house State of Mind in 2019 and composed by Karine Dubreuil-Sereni. It is worn by anyone.

Tomato leaf, basil and thyme open it with a sharp, green, garden-fresh bitterness, joined by bay leaf, laurel, oregano and sage for a full herbal, almost culinary aroma. Black tea sits in the heart, tannic and dry, with heliotrope adding a soft, almondy powder that softens the greenery. The base is where the gallantry turns a little wild: leather gives a supple depth, animal notes a warm, faintly dirty skin-like edge, and amberwood a smooth, dry, long-lasting warmth.

It suits spring and autumn and daytime or evening wear. Anyone who likes savoury, herbal greens with a leather finish should find it an unusual and rewarding wear.
