Bergamot gives a bright opening, and quince and blackcurrant add a tart, fruity sweetness. The heart is a rich white floral: tuberose, creamy and heady, ylang-ylang, sweet and slightly banana-like, and magnolia, lighter and lemony. The base is where the black of the name comes in: incense and myrrh bring a dry, smoky, resinous depth, patchouli an earthy darkness, and vanilla and amber a warm, rounded sweetness that holds it all together.
Marketed for women, it suits cold weather and evening wear, dinners and nights out, and a person who likes lush, sweet florals with a smoky, resinous side rather than a purely fruity one.
