Oud

Oud by Robert Piguet, composed in 2012 by Aurélien Guichard, is a woody fragrance first and foremost, with about half of those who describe it noticing amber and smaller groups a spicy, resinous side.

Saffron opens with a warm, leathery spice that leads into the core. Agarwood, or oud, gives a dry, smoky wood with a slightly medicinal edge, and guaiac wood adds its own soft smoke with a faint sweetness. Balsam fir and fir bring an unexpected resinous, pine-forest note, cool and slightly sticky. In the base, patchouli gives earthy depth, while styrax and myrrh add a dark, balsamic warmth that holds everything together.

The fragrance is shared and can be worn by anyone. Its smoke and resin point to autumn and winter, evening wear and formal settings, and it suits people who want a composed, wood-forward oud rather than a sweet or rosy one.
