Fantastic Oud, released by Montale in 2018, is a dark, warm woody amber. Everyone who describes it calls it woody and amber; about a third also find it floral, aromatic or leathery.
The notes are listed without a pyramid. Agarwood (oud) sets the tone with its dark, slightly medicinal, leathery depth, and leather and tobacco deepen it further with a dry, smoky richness. Incense adds a resinous, church-like smokiness, and styrax brings a balsamic, slightly sweet resin. Rose provides the floral thread, lifting the composition with a touch of jammy brightness. Patchouli adds earth, sandalwood a creamy smoothness, and ambergris a salty, warm, skin-like glow in the base.
