Vetiver & Grapefruit

Vetiver & Grapefruit is a spicy, woody scent from the British house Molton Brown, released in 2019 and worn by anyone. Spicy is the word everyone uses, most also find it woody, and only a minority call it citrusy, so the grapefruit of the name is a brief visitor.

Grapefruit does open the scent, sharp, bitter and bright, but pink pepper and cardamom arrive with it, the pepper rosy and dry, the cardamom cool and aromatic, so the spice is there from the start. The heart is warmer still: cinnamon brings a sweet, dry heat and nutmeg a rounder, slightly medicinal warmth. The base is dry and earthy. Vetiver gives a smoky, rooty, grassy depth, cedar a clean, pencil-shaving woodiness, and patchouli a dark, earthy richness that carries the finish.

Warm spices over smoky vetiver point to autumn and winter and to daytime wear, for someone who likes a dry, grown-up spice rather than a sweet one.
