Anima

Anima, from Gritti, was composed by Luca Gritti and released in 2020, and it is worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it gourmand, around three fifths add woody and floral, a smaller group find it musky and citrus, and a few mention amber.

The opening is a basket of fruit: pineapple, apple, strawberry and plum, juicy and sweet, with lime and bergamot adding a tart, zesty edge. The heart turns floral and powdery, with rose and jasmine giving warmth and iris a cool, suede-like dryness that keeps the fruit from being childish. The base is smooth and warm: sandalwood and cedar for creamy and dry woods, patchouli for earth, vanilla for sweetness, ambergris for a salty glow, and musks to settle it.

It is a generous, sweet fruity floral with enough wood underneath to feel finished. It suits daytime in mild weather and evenings in autumn, and will appeal to people who like fruit-led gourmands with some polish.
