Pomelo Fizz

Pomelo Fizz is a sparkling citrus from Comptoir Sud Pacifique, released in 2017 and worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it citrus, and about a third each mention gourmand, musky, floral, resinous and amber sides.

Grapefruit, tangerine and bergamot open it with a fizzy, bitter-sweet brightness, and blackcurrant adds a tart, slightly green fruitiness that keeps it from being plain peel. Artemisia gives the heart a bitter, herbal, faintly medicinal edge, unusual in a scent this cheerful, while orange blossom softens it with a honeyed floral note. The base is warmer than expected: myrrh brings a resinous, balsamic depth, amber a soft glow, and musk a clean finish.

It is best in warm weather and daytime, when a bright citrus is wanted, though the myrrh and amber give it a little more staying power than a simple cologne. Anyone who likes grapefruit with a twist should find it interesting.
