Oud Intense

Oud Intense is a 2009 fragrance from Comptoir Sud Pacifique, and despite the name the notes listed are more about cedar, pine and lemon than about oud itself. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, about half add citrus, and a quarter mention sweet, green, musky and amber.

Amalfi lemon and lemon open it with a sharp, sunny citrus, and blackcurrant with currant leaf and bud adds a tart, sappy, slightly catty green. Rose sits in the middle, quiet and slightly jammy. The base is the main event: Virginia cedar and cedar give a dry, pencil-shaving wood, pine tree a resinous green note, and patchouli an earthy depth, with amber adding warmth and musk a soft finish.

It is worn by anyone. The dry, citrus-wood character suits autumn and spring and daytime wear, and a person who likes crisp woods with a green edge rather than the dark, animalic style the word oud usually promises.
