Royal Amber

Royal Amber from the French house S.T. Dupont, released in 2017, is above all a woody fragrance; wood is what nearly everyone notices, with spice, a floral touch, amber and leather each mentioned by a minority.

Red berries give the opening a brief tart sweetness, quickly joined by saffron, warm and faintly leathery. Geranium adds a green, rosy edge in the middle. The heart of the scent is wood: cedar for dryness, sandalwood for creaminess, and agarwood for a dark, resinous depth. Patchouli and leather deepen it further, and amber warms the base without turning it sugary.

It is worn by anyone and has the measured, dressed-up character of an evening or cold-weather scent. It will suit someone who likes oud and saffron handled with restraint, more polished than smoky, and who wants warmth that does not tip into sweetness.
