Power Ballad

Power Ballad from the French house Room 1015, composed by Anne-Sophie Behaghel and Amélie Bourgeois and released in 2016, is a spicy, minty citrus. Spicy is the word everyone uses for it; three quarters also find it citrusy, about half woody, and a quarter resinous or aromatic.

Grapefruit, lime and bergamot give a sharp, bitter-bright opening, and peppermint and mint add a cold, tingling freshness that makes it feel almost electric. The spices are unusual: coriander for a lemony, slightly soapy warmth, anise for a sweet liquorice edge, cumin for a dry, earthy, faintly sweaty depth, and juniper for a gin-like, resinous bite. Poplar buds bring a sticky, balsamic green note. The base of cedar, vetiver and labdanum turns it drier and warmer, with the labdanum adding a soft, resinous amber.
