Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan by Police, released in 2004, is a masculine fragrance that leans floral and aromatic in equal parts. Everyone who describes it uses both words; about two thirds also call it woody and citrusy, and a third find it musky or ambery.

The notes are listed without stages, but there are a lot of them, so a few do the heavy lifting. Lemon, bergamot and mint open sharp and cooling. Lavender and sage bring the herbal, slightly bitter aromatic core, while geranium, jasmine and ylang-ylang supply a fuller floral heart than most men's scents attempt. Nutmeg warms it gently. The base is cedar and sandalwood, with vanilla and amber for softness, musk for smoothness and a hint of civet for an animalic, old-school depth.

Community reports on longevity and projection are not yet available. The mix of fresh top and warm, slightly animalic base makes it a year-round option, and it suits a man who likes a traditional, floral-tinged fougère from the early 2000s.
