Pompelmo

Pompelmo, Italian for grapefruit, is a 2023 composition by Jean-Claude Ellena for Laboratorio Olfattivo. Wood leads, and about half of those who describe it note spice and citrus.

The composition is short and transparent. Grapefruit gives a juicy, sharp, slightly bitter zest that dominates the opening. Pink pepper adds a light, rosy sparkle. Mastic, a resin from the lentisk shrub, brings a fresh, slightly piney, green-resinous note with a Mediterranean feel. The base is dry and woody, with vetiver for an earthy, slightly smoky root and patchouli for a gentle earthy depth that gives the citrus some staying power.
