Oud Reale, composed by Luca Gritti for Gritti in 2020, is an oud fragrance that everyone describes as spicy, woody, floral and amber all at once, with about half adding musky and citrus. It is rich, but built to be smooth.
Lemon and ginger open it with a sharp, fresh brightness, and pink pepper adds a rosy sparkle. Jasmine and orchid form a creamy, slightly exotic floral heart that softens the wood to come. Then the resins and woods arrive: agarwood, or oud, dark and smoky, amyris with its soft, sandalwood-like sweetness, and copahu balm and gurjun balsam, two dry, woody, slightly peppery resins. Vetiver adds a grassy depth, vanilla a gentle sweetness, and musk a warm, skin-like finish.
It is worn by anyone. The character suits cold weather and evening wear, and a person who likes oud but wants it rounded with flowers and vanilla rather than raw and animalic.
