Enigma Deux

Enigma Deux by French Avenue, released in 2023, is a sweet, woody scent built on very few ingredients. Everyone who describes it calls it both gourmand and woody, and about half add amber. It is worn by anyone.

There is no real opening act here. Agarwood gives a dark, resinous woodiness that would normally be dry, but vanilla and tonka bean wrap it in a thick, warm sweetness, somewhere between custard and toasted almond. Amber adds glow and roundness. The effect is a smooth, cosy oud rather than a smoky or medicinal one, and the balance stays much the same from the first spray to the last trace.

A scent like this suits cold evenings, winter coats and intimate settings where a sweet, enveloping warmth is welcome. It should appeal to people who like vanilla fragrances and want a little more depth and darkness underneath.
