Contemporary Girl

Contemporary Girl, composed by Celia Orozco Cirimbilli for Enrico Coveri in 2022, is a coffee-and-caramel gourmand with a rose in it. Everyone who describes it calls it sweet, most add floral and amber, and a third mention spice and musk.

Pink pepper gives a rosy, slightly peppery sparkle at the start. Coffee follows, roasted and a little bitter, which is what keeps the sweetness in check; caramel then adds a toasted, buttery sugar. Rose and geranium form the floral heart, the rose full and jammy, the geranium greener and sharper, and together they give the gourmand base something to lift it. Vanilla, amber and tolu balsam close it with a warm, resinous, slightly cinnamon-tinged sweetness, and musk softens the finish.

Marketed for women, it suits cold weather and evening or casual wear, and a person who likes gourmands with a bitter coffee edge rather than pure sugar, and who enjoys a rose that smells of dessert.
