Scent

Scent by CoSTUME NATIONAL, composed by Laurent Bruyere in 2002, is a woody floral with a green tea opening and a leathery base. People describe it as woody and floral in equal measure, and about half also find it spicy, green, amber-like and citrusy.

Cardamom, green tea and bergamot open it, cool, aromatic and slightly bitter, with the tea giving a dry, leafy freshness. The heart is unusual: hibiscus brings a tart, slightly fruity floral note, jasmine sambac a warm, rich sweetness and rose a soft, classic centre. The base is deep and warm, with patchouli for earthiness, leather for a smooth, smoky depth, vanilla for softness, ambergris for a salty, skin-like glow and sandalwood for a creamy wood.

It reads as a modern, slightly androgynous floral despite being labelled feminine: fresh and green at the start, warm and leathery at the end. It suits someone who likes florals with structure and an edge rather than sweetness and powder.
