Déclaration Parfum

Déclaration Parfum is Cartier's richer, deeper take on Déclaration, composed by Mathilde Laurent and released in 2018 in parfum concentration. Spice defines it: everyone describes it that way, most also find it woody and amber-like, and a third pick up resin, leather and citrus.

Bitter orange opens it, dry and tart rather than juicy, and it gives way quickly to the spices. Cardamom brings a cool, aromatic lift while cumin adds the warm, slightly sweaty, skin-like edge that has always been the signature of this line. The base is where the parfum earns its name: tolu balsam and benzoin give a sweet, resinous warmth, amberwood and cedar a dry, polished woodiness, vetiver a smoky, rooty depth and leather a soft, worn-in finish.

Most wearers report long lasting performance with a moderate rather than loud trail, so it stays close but keeps going. It is voted mainly for autumn and winter and splits evenly between day and night. It suits someone who likes spice and leather in a refined, close-wearing form.
