Ghala

Ghala, a 2023 women's fragrance from Al Wataniah, is amber through and through: everyone who describes it uses that word, about two thirds also call it woody, and a third find spice and flowers.

Saffron opens it with a warm, slightly leathery spice. Jasmine gives a floral glow in the middle, but the real character comes from the woods: balsam fir brings a cool, resinous, forest-like note, and cedar adds dryness. Amberwood and ambergris then take over, warm, salty and faintly animalic, giving the scent a long, glowing finish that stays close to the skin.

The pairing of fir and amber feels made for autumn and winter, for cold air and evenings indoors. It suits people who want a resinous amber with some green freshness to it rather than a purely sweet one, and who like their warmth with a hint of the outdoors.
