Mamluk by Xerjoff, composed by Chris Maurice in 2012, is a rich gourmand with honey, flowers and oud. It is opulent, golden and sweet, with a deep resinous warmth that grows over time.
The notes are presented together rather than in stages. Honey and caramel give a thick, golden sweetness, while osmanthus, an apricot-scented flower, and jasmine add a luminous floral layer. Bergamot lifts the opening with a hint of citrus. Agarwood (oud) brings a smoky, woody depth, and vanilla, benzoin, musk and amber build a warm, resinous base that clings to skin.
Performance is formidable: about half of wearers call its longevity eternal, and while the sillage is mostly moderate, a sizeable group describe it as enormous. It is voted for winter and autumn and favoured for the evening. Worn by anyone, it suits cold nights, festive occasions and formal dinners, for someone who loves sweet, honeyed scents with an oriental depth.
