Black Jeans by Versace is a floral fragrance with spice and citrus in strong support, plus woods, herbs and leather. Lucien Piquet composed it, and it was released in 1997 as a masculine scent.
It opens with lemon, mandarin orange and lemon verbena, a bright, zesty start, with ginger and tarragon adding a spicy, slightly anise-like herbal note. The heart is floral and spicy: carnation brings a clove-like warmth, and rose and iris a soft, powdery floral depth. The base is darker and drier, with leather giving a smooth, smoky richness, vetiver an earthy, rooty character and tonka bean a gentle sweetness.
With its blend of citrus, spicy flowers and leather, it suits autumn and spring, for evenings, nights out and smart casual occasions. Fans of the spicy, floral-leather style of late nineties men's fragrances will find a lot to like, as will anyone who wants a slightly rebellious, characterful scent rather than a modern fresh one.
