Mandarino di Amalfi is a bright, herb-laced citrus from Tom Ford, released in 2014 and composed by Calice Becker. People describe it as citrus, aromatic, floral and spicy in roughly equal measure, with about half also noticing a soft sweetness and a faint leathery edge.
It opens with lemon, grapefruit and mint, sharpened by basil and tarragon, so the first minutes feel green and almost kitchen-garden fresh. The heart turns herbal and gently spiced: shiso and clary sage keep it cool, black pepper adds bite, and jasmine with orange blossom rounds it into something floral. The base is warmer than the start suggests, with vetiver giving a dry, earthy line, amber and labdanum a resinous glow, and musk with a touch of civet a skin-like depth.
Most wearers find longevity and projection moderate, so it stays fairly close. It is voted mainly for summer and spring and overwhelmingly for daytime, which points to warm days out, long lunches and travel. It is worn by anyone.
