Cairo from Penhaligon's, composed by Christophe Raynaud in 2019, is a woody fragrance with spice, rose and a warm resinous sweetness. It feels rich and exotic, with saffron and patchouli setting the tone.
The opening pairs saffron, which is leathery and warm, with Damask rose for a deep, velvety floral note. In the heart, vanilla adds sweetness, labdanum a dark, ambery richness and cypriol oil, also called nagarmotha, a smoky, earthy woodiness. The base of patchouli, cedar and sandalwood dries down to an earthy, dry and creamy woody finish.
About half of wearers find it long lasting, and the sillage is split between moderate and strong. It is voted almost equally for autumn and winter and favoured for the evening. Worn by anyone, it suits cold nights, dinners and occasions where a warm, spicy rose and wood scent feels fitting, especially for someone who enjoys oriental-style compositions with presence.
