Abîme

Abîme is a hot, spicy woody scent built around pepper, incense and resins, released by the French house Maison Violet in 2022 and composed by Nathalie Lorson. It is worn by anyone.

Pepper in several forms, black pepper, pimento and chili pepper, opens it with a dry, fiery heat that is the scent's signature. Elemi and elemi resin add a lemony, slightly cool resinous note, and palo santo a sweet, smoky wood. Incense runs through the heart, giving a dry, church-like smoke. The base is cedar and sandalwood, the first dry and crisp, the second creamy and smooth, so the heat settles into a warm, woody glow rather than burning out.

It is an autumn and winter scent, suited to evenings and cold days. Anyone who likes peppery woods with incense and resin, and no sweetness to speak of, should find it a strong fit.
