Oud & Musk

Oud & Musk from the Spanish house Maison Label, composed by Angela Ciampagna and released in 2021, is a spicy, leathery oud. People describe it as spicy and woody in equal measure, and about a third also find it musky, ambery, leathery or citrusy.

Bitter orange gives the opening a sharp, slightly marmalade-like brightness, and raspberry a dark, jammy fruitiness. Black pepper and cumin follow with a hot, dry, slightly animalic spice, and marigold adds a bitter, green, herbal sharpness. Agarwood is the core, dark, smoky and faintly medicinal, with cedar giving it a dry woody frame and leather a smooth, warm depth. Vetiver adds a rooty, earthy edge, and musk and amber soften the base into a warm, skin-like finish that lasts.
