Agua de Loewe, created by Olivier Cresp in 2000 for the Spanish house Loewe, is a woody citrus scent worn by anyone. Woody and citrus are the two descriptions everyone agrees on; about two thirds add spicy, and a minority find green, musky and ambery sides.

It opens with tangerine, bergamot and yuzu, a bright, slightly bitter citrus blend, given an immediate woody warmth by palisander rosewood. The heart turns drier and more interesting: tea brings a smooth, faintly tannic note, and white pepper with spicy notes adds a gentle warmth without heat. The base of cedar, sandalwood, amber and white musk is soft and clean, dry wood with a light cushion of musk.

The result is a refined, understated fragrance rather than a loud one. It suits warm weather and daytime, from the office to a long lunch, and works well for anyone who likes a citrus scent with more structure than a simple cologne.
