Bergamot opens it with a bright, slightly bitter citrus, but the spices arrive almost at once: pimento for a warm, clove-like heat, cinnamon for a sweet fire, and nutmeg for a softer, woodier warmth. The heart pairs lavender, clean and herbal, with elemi, a bright, lemony, pine-like resin, and mahonial, a soft, slightly floral woody note that smooths the two together. The base is a solid block of dry woods, with sandalwood for creaminess, cedar for a pencil-like line, vetiver for a smoky, rooty depth, and patchouli for earth, all warmed by amber for a gentle, resinous glow.
