The Collection Noble Wood

The Collection Noble Wood is a warm, boozy woody scent from the German brand Hugo Boss, released in 2021, composed by Olivia Giacobetti and marketed for men. Gourmand is how everyone describes it, and about half also call it spicy or woody, which fits a short formula built around vanilla, oak and whiskey.

Cardamom opens it with a cool, slightly green, slightly sweet spice. Whiskey follows, warm, slightly smoky and recognisably alcoholic, and it is paired with oak, the dry, tannic, barrel-like wood that gives the whiskey its context, so the middle smells like a cask rather than a glass. Bourbon vanilla then takes over, rich, creamy and faintly smoky, and it is what pushes most people to call the scent gourmand. Cedar adds a drier, pencil-like wood beneath it so the vanilla does not turn soft.

It is an autumn and winter scent for evenings, for men who like woods served warm and a little sweet, with a drink-like character rather than a fresh one.
