Patchouli Sauvage

Patchouli Sauvage, released by Houbigant in 2023 and composed by Antoine Lie and Luca Maffei, is a woody fragrance centred on patchouli. Woods dominate, sweetness and citrus support them, and resinous amber adds a quieter warmth beneath.

Grapefruit and bergamot open with a bright, slightly bitter citrus that gives the earthy material room to breathe. Patchouli soon takes centre stage, earthy, dark and a little chocolatey, while dried fruits lend a soft, jammy sweetness. Labdanum adds a resinous, leathery richness. In the drydown, vetiver brings a smoky, rooty dryness, cedar and sandalwood give clean and creamy woods, and tonka bean and amber add a warm, almost vanilla glow.

Worn by anyone, it is a grown-up, textured patchouli that feels at home in autumn and winter, at work or in the evening. Patchouli lovers who want brightness and polish rather than heaviness should find it rewarding.
