Elixir des Merveilles is an amber fragrance from the French house Hermès, composed by Jean-Claude Ellena and released in 2006 in Elixir concentration. Amber leads, with strong sweet and woody sides and a light citrus touch.
Orange peel opens with a bright, slightly bitter citrus. The heart is sweet and warm: caramel and vanilla sugar give a toasted, sugary sweetness, while incense and Siam resin add a smoky, balsamic depth. In the base, Peru balsam, tonka bean and amber create a rich, resinous warmth, with cedar, oak, sandalwood and patchouli adding a dry, earthy wood.
Wearers are split between long lasting and moderate longevity, and sillage is moderate or strong. It is voted for autumn and winter and worn day and night equally. It suits cold weather and cosy occasions, and someone who likes caramel-and-incense ambers with a citrus twist and a woody base.
