Rose Nuit from the French house Detaille, released in 2014, is a fresh, musky rose. Floral is the word everyone uses for it; about two thirds also find it musky or citrusy, and a third woody.

Grapefruit and tangerine give the opening a bright, juicy, slightly bitter citrus lift. Rose is the centre, full and slightly fruity, and peony adds a fresher, dewier, more transparent floral tone beside it. Osmanthus brings its distinctive apricot-and-suede quality, which gives the rose a soft, slightly leathery depth. Patchouli adds an earthy foundation underneath, and white musk and musk give the base a clean, soft, skin-like finish that keeps the roses fresh for hours.

Rose Nuit is worn by anyone. Its clean, bright rose character suits spring and summer and works for day and evening alike, and it should appeal to someone who likes rose but prefers it fresh and musky rather than dark or spiced.
