Gold Man, created for Amouage by Guy Robert in 1983, is a grand, floral-woody fragrance with an incense-rich character. Flowers lead, woods follow closely, about half of people notice amber, and a minority mention green, musky and resinous shades.

Incense opens the scent alongside lily of the valley and rose hip, so a cool, smoky resin meets a fresh, slightly fruity floral brightness. The heart deepens with myrrh, jasmine and orris root: myrrh brings a bittersweet, balsamic warmth, orris a soft, powdery elegance. The base is long and opulent in structure, built on amber, civet, sandalwood and oakmoss, where civet adds an animalic, skin-like richness and oakmoss a dry, classic green depth.

People report exceptional staying power, with about half calling it eternal, and the sillage is strong or enormous. It is voted equally for autumn and winter and leans slightly towards evening. It suits formal occasions, celebrations and men who enjoy a powerful, traditional scent, best applied sparingly.
