Galbanum opens the scent with a sharp, bitter, resinous greenness, and saffron adds a dry, leathery, slightly metallic spice beside it. The floral heart is iris and orange blossom: the iris cool, powdery and rooty, the orange blossom honeyed and bright, so the flowers feel elegant rather than lush. The base is dense and dark: leather and patchouli give an animalic, earthy depth, Akigalawood a peppery woodiness, Ambrofix a radiant, ambergris-like glow, incense a smoky haze, and vanilla and musk soften the finish without making it sweet.
Smoke, leather and powdery iris suit autumn and winter and evening wear, for someone who likes a serious, layered scent with more shadow than sweetness.
