Chergui, from Serge Lutens, was released in 2001 and composed by Christopher Sheldrake. It is a honeyed tobacco: floral and ambery for everyone who describes it, with sweet, green, woody and musky sides noted by about half.

There is no formal pyramid, but the notes tell the story. Tobacco leaf and hay give a dry, sun-warmed, slightly sweet smell of a barn in late summer; honey thickens it; incense adds a thin line of smoke. Iris brings a powdery softness, rose a faint floral warmth, and sandalwood, amber and musk hold it together as a rich, golden base.

About half of wearers report long-lasting performance and most find the sillage moderate rather than loud. It is voted mainly for winter and autumn and leans towards night. It is worn by anyone, and suits cold evenings and anyone drawn to sweet, dry tobacco scents without heavy vanilla.
