Sultan Vetiver

Sultan Vetiver from Nishane, released in 2013 and composed by Jorge Lee, is a vetiver study: three kinds of it are listed, and everyone who describes the scent calls it woody. About half add spicy, and a quarter pick out floral, amber, leather or citrus. It is worn by anyone.

The notes come as a single list rather than a pyramid. Bergamot and neroli give a brief citrus and orange-blossom brightness, and pepper and anise add spice, the anise slightly sweet and liquorice-like. The core is Haitian, Bourbon and Java vetiver together, earthy, smoky, grassy and rooty by turns. Leather adds a dry, slightly rough edge, and tonka bean and amber warm the drydown so it does not end up austere.

There are no community reports yet on how long it lasts, how far it projects or which seasons suit it, so judge that on skin. By its notes it is a dry, spiced wood, which suggests a person who already likes vetiver and wants more of it rather than a gentler introduction.
