Kumkat Wood by Mancera, released in 2013 and composed by Pierre Montale, is a bright citrus wood worn by anyone. Woody is the description everyone shares, half also call it citrus, and a minority spicy, musky, floral and ambery. It is fresher and more approachable than much of the house's range.
Grapefruit and bergamot open it with spices, so the first stage is sharp, zesty and slightly peppery, with a sweet-tart quality that nods to the kumquat of the name. The heart is patchouli and amber with soft floral notes, warmer and a little earthy but kept light. The base is cedar, vetiver, sandalwood and white musk, dry, clean and smooth, with the vetiver giving a grassy edge.
About half of wearers find it long lasting and a third moderate, and two thirds describe projection as moderate. Spring and summer lead the season votes, and it is chosen mainly for daytime. It suits warm days and the office, for someone who likes a citrus scent with more woody staying power than a typical cologne.
